Speech
Course Description
Speech is a performance based course designed to help students improve their speaking and listening skills. Students will be introduced to both the theory and practice of oral communication in various public speaking situations.
Course Objectives
• Understand the communication process
• Develop the fundamentals of both verbal and non verbal communication
• Organize and present ideas clearly
• Develop a sense of confidence in various speaking situations
• Develop good listening skills
Grading Policies
• Homework will be assigned and graded on a regular basis.
• Letter grades will correspond to the school’s grading scale.
• Quarter grades are based on total points earned during the quarter.
• Semester grades are determined by averaging the percentages of the quarter grades.
Late Work
• If an assignment is handed in late, the student will receive 50% of the points earned on that
assignment.
• If a student is not ready to give a speech on the assigned day, he / she will give the speech the next day.
He / She will receive 50% of the points earned on the speech.
• If a student is absent, he/she has two days (per absence) to complete any missing work.
• If a student misses a test or quiz, he/she must schedule a time with me to take that test or quiz.
• Students who are gone for school activities (sports, FFA, speech, etc.), must find out their assignments
ahead of time. They do not get two extra days to hand in their work.
