Novels
Course Description
This course focuses on contemporary novels. Students will analyze the writing style of various authors throughout this course. Fiction topics will be used for classroom discussion and writing assignments. Reading comprehension quizzes will be given weekly.
Course Objectives
• Read and analyze a broad range of contemporary novels
• Analzye character and plot development
• Compare and contrast different literary genres
• Improve reading comprehension skills
• Foster a lifelong love of reading
Grading Policies
• Homework will be assigned and graded on a regular basis.
• Letter grades will correspond to the school’s grading scale.
• Quarter grades are based on total points earned during the quarter.
• Semester grades are determined by averaging the percentages of the quarter grades.
Late Work
• If an assignment is handed in late, the student will receive 50% of the points earned on
that assignment.
• If a student is absent, he/she has two days (per absence) to complete any missing work.
• If a student misses a test or quiz, he/she must schedule a time with me to take that test or quiz.
• Students who are gone for school activities (sports, FFA, speech, etc.), must find out their assignments
ahead of time. They do not get two extra days to hand in their work.
