Creative Writing
Course Description
This course allows students to develop their writing skills by learning to use their own experiences, observations, and opinions as sources for their writing. Students will create a portfolio which includes a large variety of original work (short stories, poetry, drama, journals, letters, etc.).
Course Objectives
• Write creatively using different points of view and different styles
• Effectively use description, images, perspective, and sensory details
• Develop a personal writing style
• Organize a portfolio
Grading Policies
• Homework will be assigned and graded on a regular basis.
• Letter grades will correspond to the school’s grading scale.
• Quarter grades are based on total points earned during the quarter.
• Semester grades are determined by averaging the percentages of the quarter grades.
Late Work
• If an assignment is handed in late, the student will receive 50% of the points earned on that
assignment.
• If a student is absent, he/she has two days (per absence) to complete any missing work.
• If a student misses a test or quiz, he/she must schedule a time with me to take that test or quiz.
• Students who are gone for school activities (sports, FFA, speech, etc.), must find out their assignments
ahead of time. They do not get two extra days to hand in their work.
